History of KHDTK Samboja

1979

Initially, Wanariset Samboja Forest was part of PT Inhutani's forest area based on the Decree of the Director General of Forestry on February 11, 1979. This area was designated as a Research Forest with an area of +500 Ha, located between S. Saka Kanan and S. Mardika, East Kalimantan. Subsequently, field boundary demarcation was recorded in the Boundary Demarcation Minutes on August 11, 1979, and ratified by the Minister of Agriculture on September 24, 1979. As a result, this area was officially designated as the Wanariset Research Forest with an area of 504 Ha through the Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 723/Kpts/Um/II/1979.

1991

On June 5, 1991, the area was expanded by +3,000 Ha to a total of 3,504 Ha through the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 290/Kpts-II/1991. The expanded area included part of the Bukit Soeharto Nature Tourism Forest covering 61,850 Ha. The boundary expansion process was carried out by the Regional IV Forest Inventory and Mapping Agency (BIPHUT IV). Temporary boundary demarcation took place from August 25 to September 13, 1992, while definitive measurements were completed from September 24 to October 8, 1992, with a total area of 3,120 Ha.

2004

The Wanariset Research Forest was then designated as the KHDTK Samboja Research Forest through the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. SK.201/Menhut-II/2004. This area covers 3,504 Ha and is part of the Bukit Soeharto Nature Tourism Park in Kutai Kartanegara and Penajam Paser Utara Regencies, East Kalimantan. This designation marked the beginning of KHDTK's function as a center for research and specialized forestry activities in the Samboja region.

2005

From November 5-25, 2005, boundary reconstruction of the KHDTK was carried out to ensure clarity of boundaries in the field. This activity was conducted by BIPHUT Region IV Samarinda together with the Samboja Primate Research and Development Station. The results were documented in the KHDTK Samboja Boundary Reconstruction Report, aimed at restoring physical boundaries such as lines and markers to their original state.
